We’re excited to launch our first ever Hedge End Running Club Monthly Mentions — a chance to celebrate the amazing things our members get up to, both on and off the roads, trails and track. From PBs and race day achievements to parkruns, long runs, running milestones, charity events and everything in between, there’s so much to be proud of across our club.
The Monthly Mentions are all about recognising everyone’s achievements, whether you’ve smashed a personal best, completed your first 5K, tackled a new distance, supported a fellow runner, or simply got out there and put the miles in. Running is about so much more than times and positions, and we want to celebrate the effort, progress, commitment and community that make Hedge End Running Club so special.
Parkrun Takeover
In July we completed our third parkrun takeover of the year at Meon Valley Trail, following the successful support given to the events at Whiteley and Itchen Valley in earlier months. At the end of August we shall be supporting the Dowds Farm Junior parkrun - invitations have been issued by Tash Cowan - and we shall conclude the series in the early autumn at Netley Abbey on 12th Sept (volunteers still required!).
A huge thanks to the many members who often given up their own Saturday runs to assist on these occasions and be part of the club's contribution to these local running community events.
650 Marathons!
Chrissy Gorham – 650 Marathons! A truly incredible milestone for Chrissy, who completed her 650th marathon in July, this is 17,030 miles of running! An unbelievable achievement that represents years of dedication, determination and countless miles. A massive congratulations to Chrissy on reaching such a phenomenal milestone — what an inspiration to the whole club!.
BigFeat Events
Mark Polkinghorne helped out for BigFeat Events at their BigHeat Trails weekend. He marshalled the Saturday and Sunday & ran the 12k trail race, getting this cool medal!
RR10 Success
Two races before the end of this year's RR10 series, Mel Ford was already acclaimed as the Individual Ladies v65 winner. She follows in the recent footsteps of Val Stewart, Tracey Shepperd, Dave Henson and Rob Spencer in being an age group winner for the club.
Hampshire Parkrun Set - Complete!
Tracy Puttock, in a break from her usual holidays, completed all of the Hampshire Parkruns by running the final event for her set at Edenbrook Country parkrun. A great achievement and one for many others to try to emulate!
